St. James Catholic Parish Mission Statement

At St. James Catholic Parish, we are a people gathered together continuing the mission of Jesus Christ

through our worship and our service. We strive towards that mission by:

· Cultivating spiritual growth through participation in meaningful liturgical experiences.

· Strengthening our parish through a variety of small and large-group activities that build community,

enabling us to pray, play and grow together.

· Supporting quality education programs for parishioners of all ages.

· Calling forth the talents of all our parishioners and empowering their ministries.

· Welcoming newcomers, reaching out to the alienated, and inviting other people to join our Christian community.

· Responding to those with special needs, both within our parish and in our neighborhood community.

· Offering spiritual, material and human resources to the poor and suffering of the world.

Serving over 1,400 households, St. James Parish requires the talents of many volunteers to run smoothly. Some of the committees are always open to new members while others require an application. (Candidates for the Board of Education, the Finance Committee and the Parish Council are interviewed and make a time commitment.)

Adult Faith Formation This committee plans programs and events for spiritual growth. In addition to many series such as Why Catholic? and Welcoming Catholics Home, the AFF invites speakers for presentations on topics of interest to parishioners. Contact Jo Kusek at 402-572-0369.

Building and Grounds This committee create policies for the use and maintenance of our facilities and grounds. Debbie Armentrout, Administrative Assistant, is the contact person at 402-572-0499.

Board of Education St. James/Seton 5-Day School and the Parish Religious Education Program are led by the SJS Total Board of Education. Candidates apply and elections are held in the spring. This board meets monthly. Contact St. James/Seton School at 402-572-0339 for information.

Finance Committee Candidates for this committee can apply through the rectory. This group drafts the parish budget and monitors and makes recommendations on parish finances. Contact Debbie Armentrout at 402-572-0499.

Parish Council Candidates apply for membership on the Parish Council during the spring. Members are elected or appointed for a three-year term. The Parish Council guides the parish and makes plans for the future. Contact the rectory, 402-572-0499, for information.

Social Committee Many people work together to host the Pancake Breakfast, Welcome Sundays, and other social events.

Stewardship Committee These volunteers promote stewardship of time, talent and treasure. Recently, they brought the Crown Financial Bible Study to St. James. Bob McDonald, 402-571-9895, looks forward to answering your questions on stewardship.
