St. James Catholic Church |
St. James for Life Committee is part of the Archdiocesan and state Bishops’ Pastoral Plan for Pro-Life Activities. This committee educates our parishioners about pro-life needs and issues and encourages participation in a variety of pro-life activities and ministries. For state wide information on pro-life activities: www.nebcathcon.org/bpppla.htm St. James for Life meets five times a year in the months of September, November, January, March and May, following the Archdiocesan Meeting with Fr. Damien Cook, Advisor. We sponsor many activities during the year!
October is Respect Life Month. Parishioners join with other churches to form a Life Chain on the first Sunday of the month-Respect Life Sunday-forming a cross in the center of Omaha. Prayers are offered for an hour as we peacefully and prayerfully witness to God’s gift of life.
During Advent we hold a Baby Shower with baby items collected for the needs of Essential Pregnancy Services. St. James parishioners donate food, clothing, and diapers, for infants and children.
Sanctity of Human Life Sunday falls closest to the anniversary of the Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision, as we join in state activities. January 22nd is offered as a day of penance by the faithful.
In March, to celebrate the Feast of the Annunciation, we participate in the Pro-Life Living Rosary, along with members of other local Catholic churches.
We sponsor the Mother’s Day signature ad in the Omaha World Herald in May.
On the first Sunday of each month, we lead a Rosary at 9:00 am for an end to abortion. The third Saturday of the month, St. James participates in a prayer vigil at 7:30 am at the Bellevue abortion clinic. We pray regularly that the abortion mill within our parish boundaries will close.
In the church library is a Pro-Life shelf with free materials on a variety of life issues. Be sure to check them out. Pamphlets relating to pro-life issues always are available in the kiosk located just outside of the church library.
