CANDLE CARE
1. INITIAL the calendar! Your attendance is very important. If you can’t make your day, please trade places with another person or call one of our substitutes. Every day has a person scheduled to work. Watch your schedule so you don’t work on another minister’s day. It’s discouraging to come in and find your work’s already done—or to find out you have two days worth of work!! !
2. CLEAN OUT all candle votives--and the vigil lamp when needed. Take care not to spill wax on the carpet! The gold votive which sometimes is on the tabernacle table is the responsibility of Bob May, our Pastoral Minister. Leave it to him to take care of it.
Replenish lighting sticks.
Large candles: Remove candles when 1/4” is left. Discard plastic inserts in the new recycle bin provided.
Small candles: Please remember to snip the wicks level to the edge of the candle cup.
Discard and replace broken glass: Clean off the rack, then space the votives evenly.
Break down boxes and put them next to the trash.
If you find money lying on the candle table, please put it into the money box. (Some visitors don’t know there’s a box for the money.)
3. FIRE DANGER ALERT! ! !
a.) Never let candles be set out without the glass globe!
b.) Clean out the burnt sticks! If they are reused, they tend to drop burning pieces.
(a & b) cause the plastic containers to catch on fire.
4. PLEASE NOTIFY Debbie when we get down to 2 cases of large inserts and/or 2 cases of small votives! Call her at 402-572-0499, ext. 13. (Leave a message on her voice mail at any time.) There is a phone by the Chapel entrance, and in the liturgy workroom by the plant station. Thank you.
5. EXTRA DUTY (for those with the time): We ask you to straighten up the hymnals and missalettes in the pews when you are done with the candles. The schedule would run: M-W-F take the east half of the church (on the chapel side); T-T-S take the west half of the church (on the choir side).
HOW TO STRAIGHTEN THE BOOKS: The red Gather hymnal stands up straight. The little missalette goes in front of the Spirit & Song hymnal, and both of them are placed with the bound side up.
6. CAN’T WORK?: If you need a substitute, consider asking a person who has the same day as you do. Otherwise, we have a good group of people who are willing to substitute for you. Their preferences are listed on this page.
