Monday of the First Week in Ordinary Time

Reading and Reflection

Reading I:   1 Samuel 1:1-8
Responsorial Psalm:   Psalm 116:12-13, 14-17, 18-19
Gospel:   Mark 1:14-20

"To you, Lord, I will offer a sacrifice of praise."  Lately I have been more aware that I am offering my sacrifice at Mass, the sacrifice of a broken spirit, of laying down my life, of growing old, and of caring for others.   This has made the Mass fresh and more meaningful.   And then today's responsorial tells of offering a sacrifice of praise.   This is not a sacrifice of all the hard work I've done, or the hard obstacles I've faced, but a sacrifice of love and praise.   It is an offering you and I can bring to the Lord at any time, not just at Mass.    So today, praise God.   Whenever you are with the Spirit in prayer, let it be praise, not petition.   Give all glory, honor and praise to God.
