Tuesday of the Fourth Week of Lent

Reading and Reflection

Reading I:   Ezekiel 47: 1 - 9, 12
Responsorial Psalm:  Psalm 46: 2 - 3, 5 - 6, 8 - 9
Gospel:   John 5: 1 - 16

It seems odd that Jesus would ask this poor man if he wants to be well, yet that is the question he posed to him.   Perhaps Jesus knows that we ourselves can't always move towards wellness even if it is in our hearts.   We are so used to an illness or sin, that we don't know how to begin to move towards the healing.   Jesus met him where he was and as long as the man desired to be well, Jesus healed him.    It may be that you and I get frustrated with people who complain about their situations and never seem to take the first step towards improving their lot.   Let us be satisfied with the simple question, "Do you want to be well?"   and then try to meet them where they are with hope and healing.

Today let us pray for St. James Parish.

The readings can be accessed at  http://www.usccb.org/nab/readings/030408.shtml  This is an easy click to the daily readings.  Use the back button on your browser to return to the reflection.    We continue to build this ministry and pray for parishioners to contribute monthly.
