Friday of the Fourth Week of Lent

Reading and Reflection

Reading I:   Wisdom 2:1, 12 - 22
Responsorial Psalm:   Psalm 34: 17 - 18, 19 - 20, 21 and 23
Gospel:   John 7: 1 - 2, 10, 25 - 30

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.   There are times when I have been brokenhearted and God was the only one close to me.   I treasure the comfort God provided.   There are instances when I didn't feel the Holy presence, but people responded and in retrospect, I knew that was how God was there.

Monday I dropped in on a friend I hadn't seen in a while.  I almost didn't stop and then something prompted me to check on my friend.   Unbeknownst to me, this dear person was in the middle of a terrible crisis and needed to cry, not necessarily tell me what was wrong, and the Spirit put me there to comfort and support.   Since then I have been in prayer a great deal, interceding and blessing my friend.

How will God use you today to be close to the brokenhearted?   I often pray Psalm 51:19, my sacrifice is a crushed spirit.   Be open to the spirit using you to help others know God is there in their suffering.

Today let us pray for St. James Parish and the Pastoral Staff.
