The readings today tell of people treated unjustly.
Susanna was innocent. The woman caught in adultery needed to
change her life and be forgiven (and where was the man??).
In both cases the voice of reason needed to be heard. Time
and wisdom, gifts of the Spirit, helped both women find justice.
As we consider those in our families, our parish, and our neighborhoods
who are being accused and judged, perhaps the message of today's
readings is that we should seek the wisdom of the Spirit before we judge
others. In our own panic or sin, we may rush to judgment and
punishment. And so we pray, "Forgive us for our hasty,
unwise judgments of others. Help us to seek forgiveness and
justice. Come Holy Spirit, and bless us with the wisdom we
need." |
