Thursday of the Fifth Week of Lent

Reading and Reflection

Reading I:   Genesis 17: 3 - 9
Responsorial Psalm:   Psalm 105: 4 - 5, 6 - 7, 8 - 9
Gospel:   John 8: 51 - 59

When Abram prostrated himself, God spoke.  The words that followed have shaped the three major religions of Islam, Judaism, and Christianity.   What allowed the power of God to form this covenant?  Abram had to yield to God, to listen, to bow down.   It was a moment of faith declaration as he laid down before God.

Have you ever laid down before God?   Priests and Deacons prostrate at Ordination.  It's a part of our Good Friday liturgies.   Members of religious orders often prostrate before stages of vows.   It is a physical sign of a spiritual surrender.   We often pray on our knees and many people pray on their knees at home, too.   In the next week, you will have opportunities to surrender and to worship God.   Try praying prostrate and hear God speak to you.

Reminder:   Communal reconciliation tonight at 7 and tomorrow at noon.

Today let us pray for St. James Parish and the Pastoral Staff.

The readings can be accessed at  http://www.usccb.org/nab/readings/031308.shtml  This is an easy click to the daily readings.  Use the back button on your browser to return to the reflection.    We continue to build this ministry and pray for parishioners to contribute monthly.
