Monday of the Second Week of Easter

Annunciation of the Lord

Reading and Reflection

Reading I:   Isaiah 7: 10 - 17, 8 - 10
Responsorial Psalm:  Psalm
40: 7 - 8a, 8b - 9, 10, 11
Reading II:  Hebrews 10: 4 - 10
Gospel:    Luke 1: 26 - 38

There is no more beautiful testament to faith and obedience than a young, unmarried woman saying, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your Word.”  During Mary’s time, a fiancée or husband could stone a woman for infidelity. Yet, knowing that, Mary still accepted what the Angel told her and turned her life completely over to the One she trusted and had faith in.

During the week, there may be times when we are being called to do some things by the Holy Spirit that seem hard to do. Maybe it will be gently confronting a married friend who is flirting with a coworker; or saying how we feel about the importance of Life during political discussions at work; or asking for forgiveness from someone we have hurt. Let’s be open to this guidance and be more like Mary.   PS

Today let us pray for St. James Parish and the Pastoral Staff.
